According to data from 2007, new patients with leprosy in NTT as many as 110 people. A total of 32 people with leprosy type PB (Pausibasiler / dry type), six small children, the rest of leprosy type MB (multibacillary / wet type).
This was stated Executive Director of Transformation Leprosy Foundation Indonesia (YTLI), Ir. Nuah P. Tarin, MA, Editor of Daily Pos Kupang on Thursday (09/25/2008) evening. He called for awareness of various parties in NTT to jointly cope with this disease.
Leprosy is caused by bacteria called Microbacterium leprae. Leprosy can be cured with a drug called MDT (Multi Drug Therapy). For PB type it took six months, while the MB type of one year. Leprosy patients are treated early before the onset of disabilities will be cured completely.
